New Colorways from Miss Babs & Free Holiday IOU Printable

We've added 7 more gorgeous hand-dyed color ways from Miss Babs to our online store! Dyed on our popular fingering weight yarn, Tibetan Dream, each color is available in extremely limited quantities. Now is a great time to snag a few skeins during our holiday sale, where we're offering FREE US shipping & 15% off all regular-priced items with coupon code YULE2015. All orders over $149 will get a $20 gift certificate, too - so buy one for a fiber friend and treat yourself to a skein or two as well!

The Odyssey Cowl by Laura Chau was designed especially with these colors in mind (it's shown below in the Rapids colorway), and we're pleased to announce that this pattern is now available for purchase as a PDF, both here on Ravelry as well as here on our website.  Just 1 skein of Tibetan Dream yarn will make the smaller version of the cowl pictured below, or opt for a longer infinity scarf by knitting the larger version with 2 skeins of yarn.

Our newest colors of Xanadu yarn have also arrived - we're pleased to welcome Aqua, Avocado, Gold and Peach to our palette. We're looking forward to seeing some colorful projects pairing these bright new colors with our existing palette of neutrals: Black, Grey, Mocha and Natural White, plus our vibrant Red, Sky and Teal options.

Consider this your last call for Lilac Xanadu, as this color is now discontinued - so stock up with coupon code YULE2015 to save 15% on your purchase!
Lastly, we want to give our blog readers the gift of less stress this holiday season, so we came up with this festive free printable for an IOU which you can include with a skein of Bijou Basin Ranch yarn for that knit-worthy person on your list!

If you've ever worried about picking out the right pattern or whether or not the finished project will fit the intended recipient, the Project IOU is the way to go: after the holidays, you can knit the pattern you know they'll love (because they helped pick it out) AND you can properly measure and try on for fit as you knit. It's win-win!

Treat Yo' Self to our Newest Project Kit!

We're pretty excited about our limited edition holiday project kit: the Odyssey Cowl by Laura Chau is a gorgeous cowl which can be knit in two sizes using either 1 or 2 skeins of our luxurious Tibetan Dream sock yarn.

The Odyssey Cowl features traveling cables which allow the ribbing to compress and expand, trapping air to keep you cuddly soft & warm; the two-skein version turns this cowl into a gorgeous and functional infinity scarf!

Each kit includes your choice of 1 or 2 skeins of Tibetan Dream Yarn that is hand-dyed by Miss Babs. Choose from the following colorways: Bistro, Berry Pie, Canyon Lands, Raisinette, Rapids, River Bed, Sangria and Sriracha.

However, this kit is much more than a fabulous pattern and some gorgeous skeins of hand-dyed yarn: we've also included a pair of top-notch circular needles from Signature Needle Arts, some Purrfectly Catchy Designs stitch markers, and an Allure Sampler Pack, all packaged in a custom-made project bag from St. Clair Designs which is made especially for this kit!

Click here to view more details in our online store.

Put it on your wish list, or gift yourself right now. Either way, we hope you'll remember to treat yo' self this holiday season!

Droughtlander KAL & SAFF

This past weekend, the Droughtlander Read-along and Knit-along kicked off here in the Subway Knits group on Ravelry. Since the television series won't be returning to Starz til April 2016, now is a great time to re-read the books and cast on for some Outlander-inspired projects using our Outlandish colors of Lhasa Wilderness or Himalayan Trail yarn. There are some great prizes up for grabs - here's how you can join in the fun for the Knit-Along:

  • Knit something in an Outlander Inspired pattern (such as our Outlander-inspired project kits), or with an Outlander yarn (click here for more details on what yarns and projects qualify).
  • You can do either the yarn or the pattern, or both for the KAL entry.
  •  There can be more than one KAL entry, and you can double and triple dip into other KALs for the duration of this KAL.
  • You must be a member of the Subway Knits group to participate.
  •  To share your knits on social media, the hashtag is #outlandeRKAL - be sure to also use #bijoubasinranch if you are knitting with our Outlandish yarns
  • Entries must be made in the thread, where a winner at the end of the KAL will receive a Grand Prize via RNG. The final deadline will be announced once we find out the premiere date (April/May 2016 is the estimate).
See you at SAFF!
Our final fiber show for 2015 is this coming weekend: the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair in Fletcher, NC (October 30th through November 1st, 2015)! We'll be bringing all of your favorite luxury yarns and project kits, plus we'll also have plenty of Allure Fiber Wash to keep your finished projects looking their best this fall. If you plan on participating in the Droughtlander KAL mentioned above, we'll have all of the Outlandish yarns and project kits on hand for you to check out, too!
Since SAFF falls over Halloween weekend, we have a few tricks up our sleeve...but don't worry, they're all treats! Stop by our booth to ask about our show special on 100% Paco-Vicuna yarns, fibers and rovings (above left). We have a limited quantity of these ultra-luxurious fibers - click here to learn more on the BBR blog! Show Special! Paco-Vicuna Yarn, Fiber & Roving

At Rhinebeck and SAFF this month, we will have an extra-special treat waiting for you in the Bijou Basin Ranch booth: 100% Paco-Vicuna yarns, fibers and rovings! We are excited to offer these extra-special fibers in limited supply and will have yarns and rovings in 6 natural shades of white, beige, light/medium/dark vicuna and a rich mahogany, all in a variety of grades/weights.
Paco-Vicunas are a very special type of alpaca which is closely related in many was to the vicuna (hence the name, Paco-Vicuna). Their fiber is extremely light with impressive uniformity, good staple length, and a lovely crimp. The fiber also has a high degree of curvature which is similar to Merino. We've managed to source fibers which fall into two of the softest grades; Grade 1 ranges from 15-17 microns and is every bit as soft as yak and cashmere, while Grade 0 is less than 15 microns and even softer than cashmere!

These superior fibers come from two-year fleece which have a standard 3-inch minimum for staple length, with many of the fine fleeces measuring between 4 and 4.5 inches for staple length. Every individual fleece is micron tested, allowing us to offer the finest, most uniform product possible. Squeezing is believing, of course, so be sure to stop by the Bijou Basin Ranch booth at Rhinebeck and SAFF to give these truly exceptional fibers a squish!
We also have four new hand-dyed colorways of our yak and silk blend laceweight yarn, Shangri-La, which will be making their show debut at Rhinebeck this weekend! They are hand-dyed for us by Lost City Knits, and they are already available for purchase here in our online store for our fans at home!

Welcome to Xanadu

Our newest addition to the Bijou Basin Ranch lineup is Xanadu, a luxurious 100% cashmere yarn available in 7 colors!

Xanadu 100% Cashmere Yarn in Gray

Summer Specials & Millends - Get 'Em While You Can!

Just in time for your summer knitting, we've got a special deal on Breezy Bolero kits - over 45% off for the lucky three people who snap them up in our online store!
Each kit includes 5 skeins of Mauve Roslyn yarn, a blend of 90% Cotton and 10% Cashmere that's oh-so-soft and perfect for warm-weather projects. There is enough yarn to make any 1 of the 6 available sizes (XS through 2XL) in the Breezy Bolero pattern by Marly Bird...but you'll have to act fast, because when they're gone, they're gone! Click here to purchase a Breezy Bolero kit online.
If you miss out on the Breezy Bolero kits, fear not: there are more deals to be had with our once-in-a-blue-moon Mill End Sale! We've got some incredible deals on large quantities of premium Tibetan Yak yarn - each bag weighs at least a half-pound and is comprised of several "Mill Ends" or short skeins (more on that in a second). This is a great time to save big on natural colors of Bijou Bliss (our yak and corm blend), Himalayan Trail (our yak and merino blend), and Tibetan Dream (our yak and nylon blend sock yarn)!

You're probably wondering what we mean by the term "Mill End." Here is a short explanation: each yarn is sent to us on cones from the mill; from there, it is measured out and broken up into individual skeins. When skeining the yarn, we always end up with lengths of yarn on the cone that is not enough to make a full skein - so they are tossed into bins marked 'shorts.' These shorts are then sorted into bags by weight until we have enough to sell in a "Mill End Special." Each bag weighs at least one half pound and is comprised of multiple short skeins that you will need to splice together. A bag may have as few as two skeins or it could contain twenty-two skeins....there is an element of surprise involved with our Mill End Sale!

To make up for this inconvenience, we discount these bags of yarn significantly: 50% off or more, to be exact! If you've been dreaming of a sweater quantity of yak yarn and don't mind weaving in a few extra ends, this sale is for you!

Pattern Round-up: Cool Summer Knits

Lightweight and lacy is the name of the game for the warmer months ahead...and apparently purple is THE color of the season! Today, we're sharing some of the newest designs using Bijou Basin Ranch yarns that are perfect for summertime stitching. We probably couldn't have planned this if we'd tried, but the latest round of new patterns just happen to have a certain royal hue in common. Purple lovers, this one's for you!
Fans of Downton Abbey will enjoy this delicate scarf designed by Kellie Nuss in our 50/50 yak and silk blend Shangri-La yarn. However, this project is more than meets the eye: Something Lady Mary Might Wear is described by the designer as an exploration in knitted jewelry - without the use of beads! It's also a skill-building project which introduces basic intarsia skills as part of the Next Level Knit-along at
If knitting with beads does happen to be your thing, then the Catalina Cape by Anniken Allis is right up your alley! This lacy crescent-shaped shawl incorporates beads to create an absolutely stunning design. It's knit with Seraphim, our angora blend yarn; pattern appears in the Beaded Lace Knitting book, which was published earlier this spring.

True lovers of lace won't want to miss Marly Bird's Blue Diamond Lace Scarf, which is also knit with our Seraphim yarn. This long rectangular scarf is knit in two halves, then grafted together in the center to create a beautifully symmetrical lace piece. The pattern appears in the Lace Yarn Studio book by Carol Sulcoski, which was published earlier this spring.

Shawl lovers will want to snag the latest issue of Knitscene Accessories, which has over 10 different knit worthy shawls, including the Wallis Shawl by Ágnes Kutas-Keresztes! This top-down lace shawl is the perfect choice for our 100% yak sport weight yarn, or mix things up a bit and knit a version in Lhasa Wilderness, our yak and bamboo blend! As an added bonus, we'll donate all net profits from your purchase of Lhasa Wilderness yarn towards Nepal earthquake relief efforts (just be sure to make your purchase from this page on our site).

June Events + Qiviut is Back

June is here, and we have two exciting fiber shows on our calendar this month: this coming weekend, we'll be heading to Estes Park, CO for the 25th annual Estes Park Wool Market on June 13 & 14, 2015! This is the largest fiber festival in the west (not to mention, our favorite hometown show), and we're looking forward to seeing you there. Look for us in the new expanded vendor barn!

The following weekend, we'll be heading to beautiful Eugene, OR for the Black Sheep Gathering June 19-21, 2015. We had such a great time last year that we couldn't wait to return, and this year's marketplace has been moved indoors to the Exhibit Hall - you can find us in Booths O 6 & 7 (click here to view the floorplan and exhibitor list so that you can plan your route accordingly)!

Besides your favorite luxury yarns and Allure Wash, here is a preview of what you can find in our booth at both of these events!

Yak Paks: These colorful packs are perfect for stripes and colorwork, and they are available only at upcoming fiber festivals in the BBR booth.

Needle Felted Yak Kits: Each kit includes everything you need to needle felt a tibetan yak, and they're great for beginners! These kits have been quite popular at recent events, and they are also available here in our online store.

Qiviut: It's baaaack! Our popular Qiviut yarns have been a little hard to come by recently, but we just received a shipment of our 100% Qiviut and Premium blend yarns (both of which are available in laceweight and fingering weight). Stop by the BBR booth at both of our upcoming events to inquire about our show specials, or click here to shop online!

Last but not least, we'd like to remind folks that we are still raising funds for Nepal Earthquake Relief - click here to see our eligible products. As we have mentioned before, BBR has a close working relationship with many yak ranchers in Nepal and Tibet, and we would like to do what we can to help folks in the region who have been affected by the recent earthquakes. We hope you'll help us spread the word and consider making a purchase to help the cause.

Thanks for joining us!
